Mold, Insects and RodentsRegardless of type, spray foam is a plastic. It has no food value and it will not support mold growth, nor is it attractive to insects and rodents. Air Krete cement based foam will dry out the exoskeleton of insects killing them in the process. Foam insulation seals building cavities and eliminates or dramatically reduces transmission of moisture. Moisture is primarily carried on moving air so no air movement means no significant moisture movement. And without moisture, mold will not grow. However, please note that no insulation system can be a substitute for responsible building design. Your building must be designed to keep moisture where it belongs – outside. Proper detailing of drainage planes, roofs and envelope penetrations is a must. In addition to proper exterior detailing, measures should be put in place to control moisture that is added to the building by its occupants. Turn on your bathroom fan and range hood when those areas are in use. To maintain proper indoor air quality, we strongly recommend the installation of a mechanical ventilation system such as an energy recovery ventilator. |
